New Issue of Doubleback Review Released
The background is a piece of off-white fabric bordered at the top and bottom with strips of flowered fabric. The image includes pictures, swatches of pastel green and pink fabric, and frames or boxes meant to hold keepsakes. (These frames or boxes remind me of some of Marcel Duchamp's readymades.) At the top left, there are three black frames surrounded by a spill of multicolored pills. The top right includes a turquoise and partitioned box with a black scorpion, black umbrella, and black pair of wings in its three compartments. The lower right includes a wooden box or frame filled with old-fashioned medicine or whiskey bottles and a picture of a red pendant necklace on a green background. The pendant is oval-shaped and looks a bit like a beetle. The lower left includes a spray of circular, dark red objects that may be pills or paint drops. A partitioned wooden box holds a knife in one compartment and two hands in the compartment beside it. The center of the images holds the other fabric swatches, a faded and stained written prescription, and a picture of a prone skeleton dangling from spiderweb. The black spiders dangle beside the skeleton.
