I Will Miss You When You Are Gone

by Jacob Driscoll Issue 24 11.15.2010

After dying, the ghost of my suicide-bomber friend appeared to me.

“Congratulations!” I told him. “The news talked about you a lot, and your internet video was very violent. I think your mission was a success.”

“It was a failure!” the ghost cried. “The cemetery! They didn’t put me in the cemetery!”

“I’m sorry. Was that important?”

“It’s where my wife is. This is a problem. I don’t know why I did it anymore. I don’t feel any better, I am no closer to her. Why didn’t they put me in the cemetery?”

“I don’t know. But you did change the world. Forever! No one will forget you now.”

“I lied to myself. I died to change the world, instead of dying for love. I failed. That is why I must wander the earth now.”

“Maybe you really wanted to change yourself.”

“I never wanted anything to change. I wanted to be in love forever.”
