Lizzie Stark


Lizzie Stark is a founding editor of Fringe, and the author of Leaving Mundania (Chicago Review Press, 2012), a narrative nonfiction book about the subculture of live-action role-playing, or larp. Her freelance journalism and writing has appeared in The Philadelphia Inquirer, io9, The Daily Beast, and elsewhere. Her next book, Pandora’s DNA: How the breast cancer gene changed everything is due out in 2014.  She blogs at

Anna Laird Barto

Fiction Editor

Anna Laird Barto holds an MFA from Emerson College. She has published short fiction in A Journal of the Built and Natural Environments, and her travel writing has appeared in GoNomad, Transitions Abroad, and Matador Travel, among others. After living everywhere from Wisconsin to Mexico, she has settled in Charlestown, Massachusetts, now better known as the “Bank Robbery Capitol of America,” thanks to Ben Affleck. Fortunately, up until now, Anna has been able to support her writing habit without turning to a life of crime.


David Duhr

Managing Editor

David Duhr moonlights as Fiction Editor at The Texas Observer, and is co-founder of WriteByNight. His writing has appeared in the Dallas Morning News, Publishing Perspectives, Gulf Coast, Iowa Review and others. After having lived in Milwaukee, Denver, D.C., Boston, and Florida, he has found a (maybe-) permanent home in Austin; where he’s trying to grow a beard, because that’s what Austin dudes do. David was the Fringe Fiction Editor for two years.


Heather MacNeill Falconer

Heather MacNeill Falconer holds an MLitt from the University of Glasgow in Postmodernity/Modernity, an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College, and a BS in Ecology from Unity College. In addition to working on two novels, Heather spends time painting and training for marathons. She currently resides in New York City. Heather is a founding editor of Fringe.

Llalan Fowler

Nonfiction Editor

Llalan is a graduate of Emerson College, where she earned an MA in Writing and Publishing. She is an enthusiastic fan of both books and beer, and hopes to combine these two soon in her own business. She presently manages an independent bookstore in Ohio.


Joanna Green

Criticism Editor

Joanna Green holds a BA in English from the University of Minnesota and an MA in English Literature from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Apart from interest in queer theory, women’s studies, and ecocriticism, she spends her days working at Beacon Press, an independent nonprofit publisher.


Julia Henderson

Art Editor, Webmistress

Julia Henderson graduated from Vassar with a BA in History in 2001 and received her MA in writing and publishing from Emerson in 2006. She passes her days working as a support manager for online course production at a textbook company. Julia spends a lot of time working in her garden, badmouthing corporate media, and training her two young boys to be a good little feminists like their mama. Julia is a founding editor of Fringe.


Anna Lena Phillips

Poetry Editor

Anna Lena Phillips’s  writing appears in BlazeVOX, Open Letters Monthly, the Anthology of Appalachian Writers, and others. She is the recipient of the Southern Women Writers Conference’s 2012 Emerging Writers Award in poetry, a 2012 Nazim Hikmet Poetry Contest award, a 2011 Emerging Artist grant from the Durham County Arts Council, and 2008 and 2009 Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg prizes. She has been awarded residencies at Penland School of Crafts and the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities. She received an MFA in creative writing from Emerson College in 2006. Her projects and pursuits are catalogued at One such project, a letterpress-printed, pocket-sized guide to poetic forms, is slated for release in 2013. Anna Lena is a founding editor of Fringe.


Janell Sims

Director of Publicity

Janell Sims earned her MA in Publishing and Writing from Emerson College and since then, her love affair with Boston has turned into a sustained five-year relationship. She is currently Publications Coordinator at the Shorenstein Center in Harvard’s JFK School of Government, and a graphic designer on the side. She is actively involved with her local church and enjoys hosting parties, advocating feminism while sipping martinis, and listening to local music in her favorite Somerville neighborhoods. Janell is a founding member of Fringe.


Cat Mooney

Head Copyeditor, Blogger

Cat Mooney received her BA in English and French from Simmons College in 2006. Since then she has dabbled in marketing, publishing, and freelance writing. When not working in higher ed publishing, she can be found writing about events for various Boston blogs, trying new restaurants, and checking out local bands’ shows.

Sadaf Ahsan

Assistant Copyeditor

Sadaf Ahsan is a student at the University of Toronto where she is studying English and psychology. When she’s not writing, she spends her time listening to music, watching Johnny Depp movies and Russell Brand shows, and laughing with her friends.

Nellie Bellows

Assistant Poetry Editor, Blogger

Nellie Bellows holds an MFA in poetry from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a BA in English from Guilford College. When she’s not writing poems or thinking about them, she’s probably drinking coffee, reading YA novels, and pretending to be otherwise engaged.
