Sundress Publications announces an open submission call for Transmasculine Poetics: Filling the Gaps in Literature & the Silences Around Us, a collection of works by contemporary transmasculine poets.
Transmasculine Poetics carries on the fine tradition of showcasing trans voices established by the anthologies Troubling the Line: Trans and Genderqueer Poetry and Poetics (2013) and We Want It All: An Anthology of Radical Trans Poetics (2020).
All transmasculine poets are welcome to submit to Transmasculine Poetics, slated for release in Fall 2023. Both formal and experimental work will be considered. Works may, but are not required to, engage in themes such as body dysmorphia, gender transition, gender-affirming surgery, etc.
BIPOC poets are especially encouraged to submit.
Contributors will be paid a small honorarium. This anthology will appear exclusively in a digital format available for free on the Sundress website.
Interested poets should submit up to 3 poems along with a short bio (approximately 50 words) and a preferred email address https://tinyurl.com/transmasculineanthology by April 30, 2023.
Previously published work will be considered as long as the poet retains the right to reprint it and notes where it first appeared. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable as long as the author notifies the editor at sundressanthology@gmail.com that the work has been accepted elsewhere before notification of acceptance in the anthology.
Early submission is recommended, as work will be assessed as it arrives. Post–acceptance, contributors will be asked to produce a 100–300 word statement on their poetic practice to be included alongside their work.
Remi Recchia, a trans poet and essayist from Kalamazoo, Michigan, will serve as the editor for this anthology. He is currently a PhD candidate in English-Creative Writing at Oklahoma State University. He serves as an associate editor for The Cimarron Review and as Book Editor for Gasher Press. A five-time Pushcart Prize nominee, Remi’s work has appeared or will soon appear in World Literature Today, Best New Poets 2021, Columbia Online Journal, Harpur Palate, and Juked, among others. He has been a Thomas Lux and Tin House Scholar. He holds an MFA in poetry from Bowling Green State University. Remi is the author of Quicksand/Stargazing (Cooper Dillon Books, 2021) and Sober (Red Bird Chapbooks, 2022).
