[we: not about sex]
(an examination of the number
three and human interaction.)
3 = 3
thursday night:
we traveled like
tricycles--three
of us packed into my
car and we headed to
Denny's for
coffee (she
didn't like
coffee).
3 = 1 + 1 + 1
early friday
morning:
it started as
responsibility
(his) and pushed
right into guilt
(mine); she fell
apart and i felt
responsible. we
left:
self-hating,
self-involved,
self-righteous.
3 = 2 + 1
friday afternoon:
there was uneasy
silence beneath the
faith & disease,
beneath the grey
mourning of broken
tricycles and
bruised necks.
i couldn't sleep
in the bed empty
of you, jealousy
kissing my ear
lobes.
f (3) = f (3)
three is an odd number.
merriam-webster defines
odd as:
a : being without a corresponding mate
b (1) : left over after others are paired or grouped
(2) : separated from a set or series
people
should be in
even numbers.
2 = 3 - 2 + 1
friday evening:
returning from
nether providence,
i expected to find
you annotating chess;
you were in
the kitchen,
plastering
poetry to the
refrigerator
for me.
(bartering verse
for immortality
in one of my sex
poems.)
we kissed.
we (you and i) are
something more complete
and nearer perfect than
the we of three friends
stranded on grey fridays.
our we is an even number.
