SHE'S GOING AWAY
It snowed the heavy day down,
and now I imagine your eyes closed,
face against a bus window
stars running over the reflections
of bare trees. The night between
like dark water flooding, filling in every gap
carrying a debris of light
and white bits that brush the window;
the snow-fogged pane will wake
you with a face half-frozen.
Rolling around a bend in the highway
sends the sheets of stars to jangle and disarray,
beyond the window that watches you sleep
simple and silent as this lonely night
with cities flashing like snow in the wind.
