PRIMATINE MIST
even when she remembered to take
her asthma medication she would still
hyperventilate when placed in front
of the class & asked to expound upon
Francis Bacon she wheezed in her
first sentence or two while
the whole class sat there staring blankly
except for the one who ran for a paper bag
citing some kind of medical training and the
professor -- the same one who nominated me
years later for a humanitarian award for my writing --
stood there looking perplexed, perhaps deciding
he should have assigned John Donne.
