INVITATION

In another fall
years later
news from Gotham
brightened,
but just for a moment

Orange leaves on
hard summered lawns
colors but slakes no thirst
even my rose colored
rear-view mirror
can't blur that pain
those years of wait

forewarned
I contemplate my fate
forearmed
I respectfully decline
