Dawn Bruce

pearl-grey and silver

in her house
grey on grey
the argent touches
evoke
images of rescue

old-lace at every window
and by the door
a reconstructed monster
in plant form
old man banksia

quiet as a widow
she sits and paints
long shadows griseous
on stretched canvas
unprimed

midnight
stars mica-bright
sparkle the air
and the rescue
begins

'The Bull'
...after Picasso

I observe
but draw abstraction

pliable as chicken bones
all curves
bent to straighten
into sides of triangles

the head
slenders
into the long nose
eye sockets gouged and blackened
jowls divided into twisted quarters

horns honed
to strong steel sharpness

control of line
distils
the flesh and blood
to geometry

leaves the creature
a precise perception
...an abstraction
